“…Wang et al. (2016) found a positive effect of 5 and 10 mg/ml PSPE on obesity‐induced mortality in a study carried out in D. melanogaster . The experimental diets were prepared by adding 0.5, 2.0, 5.0, 8.0, or 10.0 mg PSPE powder to the control diet per milliliter.…”

“…An in vivo study carried out in mice has found that PSPE exhibited memory enhancing effects and prevented decline in neural function, which may associate with its antioxidant properties (Cho et al., 2003). Meanwhile, many researches indicated that PSPE played an important role in preventing diseases, such as colorectal cancer and cardiovascular diseases (Lim et al., 2013; Wang et al., 2016). Furthermore, purple sweet potato color prevented the release of pro‐inflammatory factors by increasing autophagy level, thereby inhibiting endothelial cell senescence and maintaining intracellular stability (Sun et al., 2019), malondialdehyde (MDA) and ROS content, and enhancing autophagy activity in hippocampus of high‐fat‐feeding mice (Zhuang et al., 2018).…”

“…The synthesis of these enzymes is considered to be an important regulator of the stress response in animals. As an endogenous oxidation defense system, the over-expression of SOD and CAT genes increases the longevity of D. melanogaster ( 33 36 ). Thus, the induction of Hsp70 and the generation of antioxidant enzymes are potential regulatory factors for the improvement of heat tolerance under thermal stress.…”

“…Altitude, which has an effect similar to latitude, seems to be positively correlated to the anthocyanin content in S. nigra fruits (Senica et al, 2017). Anthocyanins being a source of antioxidants, their consumption has been proven beneficial for Drosophila melanogaster (Valenza et al, 2018;Wang et al, 2016). A higher number of reddish-black fruits as well as higher contents of anthocyanins could therefore mean resources of better quality for D. suzukii and explain the higher infestation of elderberry at high latitudes.…”
