Pulp Calcification in Traumatized Primary Teeth – Classification, Clinical And Radiographic Aspects

Abstract: Since PC is a general term, it is important to classify it and correlate it to clinical and radiographic changes, in order to establish the correct diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each case.

“…While the risk of pulp necrosis and subsequent infection of the root canal system for the yellow teeth was same as that for teeth with normal color, an eight times higher risk of pulp canal obliteration was observed in the former. The impact of these findings for clinical practice is that yellow teeth have a high probability of maintaining a normal pulp and non‐invasive procedures are indicated in such cases . The pulp canal obliteration may be a result of damage to the neurovascular supply coupled with ischemia followed by necrosis or revascularization.…”

“…26,27 For Silva et al, 28 manual instrumentation of root canals, despite being the most widely accepted and used method for canal debridement and modeling, is time consuming and may result in iatrogenic errors. Optimization of the traditional endodontic technique with the use of rotating mechanical and apex locators has advantages such as reduced clinical time, increased patient comfort, and less need for behavioral cooperation of children; 29,30 however, it increased the costs due to the need to purchase necessary equipment for its accomplishment.…”
