Background: Depression and sexual problems are common in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and can influence their quality of life. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the efficacy of saffron and its main constituent, crocin, in improving mental and sexual health and ultimately quality of life in CAD patients. Methods: This double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial was carried out during 8 weeks in 3 groups, including 1 placebo and 2 intervention groups. The study sample included 58 CAD patients within the age range of 40 -65 years, referred to Shahid Madani cardiovascular hospital, Tabriz, Iran, from April 2015 to November 2016. The intervention groups received saffron aqueous extract (SAE; 30 mg; n, 20) or crocin (30 mg; n,19). All the groups completed the demographic questionnaire, Beck depression inventory-II (BDI-II), Hulbert index of sexual desire (HISD), and MacNew health-related quality of life questionnaire.

Study Objectives: Sleep and fatigue difficulties appear to be highly prevalent among individuals with end-stage renal disease and individuals who have received a kidney transplant. While there is some evidence of biopsychosocial factors predicting sleep disturbance in these populations, previous studies have relied on single time point retrospective measurements. Methods: The study utilized a 2-week prospective measurement approach, including one night of polysomnographic measurement, nightly sleep diaries, and self-report measures of health, sleep, and mood. Results: The current study demonstrates that a number of psychological and behavioral factors, including negative mood, quality of life, napping, and caffeine consumption, are related to sleep disturbance among pre-and post-kidney transplant patients. This study also found that many of these factors have different relationships with sleep disturbance when comparing pre-and post-kidney transplant patients. Conclusions: These results suggest that such factors may be worthwhile areas for intervention in treating the symptoms of insomnia among pre-and posttransplant recipients. A nuanced approach to understanding sleep problems is likely warranted when conceptualizing insomnia and developing a treatment plan. I NTRO DUCTI O NSleep complaints are common among individuals with endstage renal disease (ESRD) and patients who have received kidney transplantation (KTX).1-6 While on dialysis, patients report that sleep disturbance is one of their most prominent symptom complaints.1 Compared to dialysis, kidney transplantation is considered the treatment of choice for ESRD due to longer patient survival, fewer morbidities, and better quality of life. Unfortunately, little is known about the relationship between ESRD and sleep or the impact of KTX on that relationship. The research that does exist suggests that the rates of common sleep disorders including insomnia (50% to 75% v 9%), restless legs syndrome (30% to 80% v 5% to 15%), and sleep apnea (~24%), are higher in ESRD than in the general population, and ESRD patients are also at risk for more severe sleep apnea.2-7 The rates of these disorders tend to decrease following KTX (expect apnea), but nonetheless remain elevated compared to normative estimates.8 While considerable research has focused on predictors of sleep apnea and restless legs syndrome (RLS), relatively little research has focused on insomnia in these populations. Additionally, due to a reliance on cross-sectional designs and retrospective assessment of insomnia, previous research has been unable to provide greater insights into sleep's relationships with ESRD. Previous research has been largely atheoretical and has examined insomnia in relative isolation without consideration of important biopsychosocial relationships that may be relevant in the context of ESRD and KTX. В первой публикации были проанализированы особенности и результаты при-менения шкал самооценки тревоги в пожилом возрасте.Это исследование посвящено шкалам-опросникам де-прессии в пожилом возрасте.В литературе имеется достаточно много шкал само-оценки депрессии, предназначенных для всех возрастных групп, но специфичных для пожилого возраста -мало, и ощутим дефицит информации по валидизации, условиям применения и интерпретации результатов в этих случаях. Между тем применение шкал самооценки депрессий, раз-работанных без учета возрастных особенностей, снижает диагностическую эффективность у пожилых [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. В этом отношении особенно важны шкалы самооценки Цель исследования. Изучение возможностей применения шкал-опросников депрессии в пожилом возрасте, оценка показателей их валидности и разработка практических рекомендаций для использования в клинической практике. материал и методы. выборка включала 234 больных старше 50 лет с тревожными депрессиями. Применялись следующие шкалы-опросники депрессии: BdI, GdS-15, CES-d-10, CES-d-20, zdS и hadS-d в начале исследования и после 12 нед терапии. обработка результатов включала расчет показателей конвергентной, дискриминантной и диагностической валидности шкал-опросников депрессии в пожилом возрасте. результаты. Было установлено, что все изученные шкалы-опросники эффективны для диагностики депрессии в пожилом возрасте. доказана возможность их применения у пожилых больных с легким снижением когнитивных функций. Подтвержден рост корреляции оценок шкал депрессии и тревоги в пожилом возрасте до потери дискриминантной валидности «сдвоенных» шкал-опросников альтернативным набором симптомов для диагностики депрессии и тревоги. Заключение. на основе полученных результатов разработаны общие и индивидуальные (для каждой шкалы) рекомендации оптимального применения шкал-опросников депрессии при обследовании лиц пожилого возраста. Objective. To study possibilities of using depression scales in elderly patients, evaluate the parameters of their reliability and validity and develop practical recommendations on the use of these scales in clinical practice. Material and methods. The study included 234 patients, aged over 50 years, with anxious depression. The following scales/questionnaires BdI, were used at baseline and 12 weeks after treatment. data analysis included the calculation of convergent, discriminative and diagnostic validity of depression scales/questionnaires in elderly. Results. all scales are effective for the diagnosis of depression in elderly people.
