Psychometric Evaluation of the Sinonasal Outcome Test‐16 and Activity Impairment Assessment in Acute Bacterial Sinusitis

Abstract: The measures both have good psychometric properties and are suitable for use with patients with acute bacterial sinusitis. Both instruments are sensitive. The minimal important difference estimates for the Sinonasal Outcome Test-16 are quite high but are similar to estimates reported previously.

“…It is possible that these pathogens could be hematogenously seeded into the joint following dental procedures causing infection among patients who have recently undergone knee arthroscopy. Similarly, organisms including Streptococcus pneumoniae , Haemophilus influenzae , Moraxella catarrhalis , Streptococcus pyogenes , or Staphylococcus aureus have been isolated from nasal cultures in patients with rhinosinusitis [21]. It is possible that bacteria liberated from the sinus cavities during surgical treatment could likewise be seeded into the joint hematogenously.…”

“…All participants filled out the Sinonasal Outcome Test-16 (SNOT-16), the questionnaire validated by Garbutt and colleagues [ 17 , 31 , 32 ], on which they rated the severity of 16 symptoms on a scale of 0 = no problem to 4 = severe problem ( Table 1 ).…”
