The business culture in the educational system remains conservative, despite the fact that the values of tolerance are wide-spread in the world. This affects the transformation of ideas about the profession of teachers. The article establishes the relationship of ideas about the profession and satisfaction with the profession with the values and meanings of university teachers. It is assumed that in modern conditions of higher education, values and life meanings may differ among teachers with different ideas about the profession. The study sample consists of 270 university teachers aged between 25 and 65 years, work experience from 3 to 25 years, 150 women and 120 men. We used the questionnaire of professional satisfaction (Kissel), the method of measuring values (Schwartz), the semantic differential (Osgood), and the method of identifying life meanings (Kotlyakov). We defined groups of teachers with a neutral view and a positive view of the profession, with varying degrees of satisfaction with the profession. As a result, it was found out that the group of teachers with a neutral attitude to their profession has the most manifested values: conformity, hedonism, security, and meanings: hedonistic, status, and family. The group of teachers with a positive view of the profession, has the values of independence, achievement and security, combined with the meanings: altruistic, self-realization, family and cognitive. It is concluded that university teachers with positive ideas about the profession are more altruistic about their activities, and teachers with neutral ideas about the profession are pragmatic about it.

The value gap between the subjects of the educational space makes it difficult to introduce innovations in the process of interaction between a teacher and a student. The study is aimed at comparing the Big five (TIPI-RU) traits and Schwartz values in Generation Z students. Students (N=396) are residents of the Crimea and the Rostov region. We assumed that if respondents belong to the same age group and are identified with the same Generation Z group, they must have similar personality traits and value structure. As a result, we found out that the values of conservatism and self-transcendence prevailed in both groups. The Crimean students have the values of universalism, kindness, security is associated with achievements. The Rostov students have the most expressed values of universalism and independence, security is associated with power. The Crimean students were dominated by personal traits: conscientiousness, consent and openness to experience, extroversion. The Rostov students showed conscientiousness and openness to experience. We concluded that the differences between the two groups mainly relate to the value structure and the respondents’ area of residence plays a role. The research can be useful for developing work and training programs for young people.

The relevance of our research is due to the processes taking place in a modern Russian society. Value orientation is the most important component of a human life, the basis for the life goals formation and, as a result, it acts as a motivation encouraging a person to behave according to his expectations. The values of a person of each epoch differ from each other as the external environment influences each of us including our spiritual world. Interpersonal communication and communication through various technological means is of great importance to a modern society. It is difficult for modern people to imagine themselves without a cellphone with dozens of apps installed and connected to the Internet. And this digital approach changes even the attitude towards a communication value, reconsiders it. The authors attempted to define a phenomenon of a communication value, classify the communication processes in a modern society, describe an impact of the communication processes within its value into an individual and explain a process of a revaluing under certain circumstances taking in account fundamental factors for the sustainable development of the world.
