Zusammenfassung Ausgehend von der Diskussion um die Krise der Psychoanalyse und insbesondere der psychoanalytischen Ausbildung wurden 145 über 70-jährige Analytiker nach ihren Ausbildungs- und Berufserfahrungen sowie zu ihren Einstellungen zur Psychoanalyse befragt. Die Älteren sind dabei von großem Interesse, weil sie ihre Ausbildung in der regel vor 1967 begannen, also vor der Einführung der richtlinientherapie (Kostenübernahme durch die gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) unter deutlich weniger formalisierten Bedingungen und so als kontrastierend zu den aktuellen gegebenheiten sowie Ausbildungsbedingungen gesehen werden können. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass v.a. persönliche, inhaltliche und wertbasierte motivationen (eigene Probleme, therapeutische Vorerfahrungen, inhaltliches Interesse, Wunsch nach Tiefe, selbsterkenntnis und Erweiterung der als Einengung erlebten möglichkeiten des grundberufs) die Berufsentscheidung bestimmt hatten. Die Lehranalysen waren trotz einiger Ausreißer nach unten auch damals schon von beträchtlichem umfang (durchschnittlich 544 stunden) allerdings auch oft von niedrigerer Frequenz (30%, weniger als 3 stunden/Woche). Durch das aktuelle gesetzgebungsverfahren zum Wegfall der Altersgrenze (68 Jahre) für die Kassenzulassung von Ärzten und Therapeuten sind die Erkenntnisse über die hohe Altersberufstätigkeit (69%) der Befragten, von denen 45% noch in eigener Praxis und 22% als Lehranalytiker tätig sind, von besonderer relevanz.
