Pseudolaric acid B inhibits proliferation in SW579 human thyroid squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the thyroid is a rare and aggressive type of neoplasm, which is routinely treated with surgery; however, despite this, survival time is not commonly more than six months. Thus, the aim of the present study was to determine the efficacy of pseudolaric acid (PAB) as a therapeutic agent. PAB is an antitubulin agent, and in the present study, inhibition of the SW579 thyroid squamous cell carcinoma cell line by PAB was investigated. PAB was found to inhibit SW579 cell growth in a … Show more

“…PAB promotes the aggregation of microtubule fiber. PAB exerts its function by influencing microtubule fiber aggregation (17). We found that PAB treatment promoted the uneven aggregation of microtubule fibers with more obvious red staining, while control cells showed even aggregation of microtubule fibers (Fig.…”

“…It is worth noting that pseudolaric acid B, oridonin, and erianin were extracted from P. kaempferi Grord ( Pinaceae ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu, Li, et al, ; Yu, Ren, et al, ; Yu, Wang, et al, ), R. rubescens (Li et al, ; Ye et al, ) and Dendrobium chrysotoxum (Wang et al, ), respectively, which should be considered for treating EVD68‐related diseases. However, rheum emodin, artemisinin, and astragaloside were extracted from Chinese rhubarb (also from Polygonum cuspidatum Sieb.et Zucc, Rumex patientia Linn, Fagopyrum dibotrys (D.Don) Hara, Rumex japonicus Houtt, Fallopia multiflora (Thunb.)…”

“…A major saponin of this herb, astragaloside, has anticancer, antifatigue, anti‐Coxsackie B virus, and anti‐inflammatory effects (Chen et al, ). Pseudolaric acid B, which is a diterpene acid isolated from the roots and trunk bark of Pseudolarix kaempferi Grord ( Pinaceae ), has antifungal (Li, Clark, & Hufford, ) and antitumor activities (Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu et al, ; Yu, Li, Tashiro, Onodera, & Ikejima, ; Yu, Wang, et al, ). Oridonin, an active diterpenoid isolated from Rabdosia rubescens , has antitumor (Li et al, ; Ye et al, ) and anti‐inflammatory (Zhao et al, ) effects.…”
