A novel Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, non-flagellated, strictly aerobic strain, designated RZW2-1 T , was isolated from coastal seawater of the Yellow Sea in China (35.4758 N 119.6138 E). The organism grew optimally at 24 8C, at pH 7.0 and in the presence of 3.0 % (w/v) NaCl. The strain requires seawater or artificial seawater for growth and NaCl alone does not support growth. Strain RZW2-1 T contained MK-6 as the only respiratory quinone and iso-C 15 : 0 , iso-C 15 : 1 G and 10-methyl C 16 : 0 and/or iso-C 17 : 1 v9c as the dominant fatty acids. The polar lipids of strain RZW2-1 T were four unidentified phospholipids (PL1-PL4), two unknown lipids (L1, L2) and one unidentified aminolipid (AL1). The DNA G+C content of strain RZW2-1 T was 32 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the novel strain was most closely related to the type strain of the only described species of genus Pseudofulvibacter, Pseudofulvibacter geojedonensis YCS-9 T , with 95.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity. On the basis of polyphasic analyses, strain RZW2-1 T represents a novel species of the genus Pseudofulvibacter, for which the name Pseudofulvibacter marinus sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is RZW2-1 T (5JCMThe genus Pseudofulvibacter, a member of the family Flavobacteriaceae, was first described by Yoon et al.(2013) for accommodation of Gram-staining-negative, non-flagellated, non-gliding flavobacteria producing catalase and oxidase. There is only one species of the genus Pseudofulvibacter with a validly published name, Pseudofulvibacter geojedonensis (Yoon et al., 2013). Here, a novel bacterial strain, designated RZW2-1 T , was isolated from a seawater sample collected from a coastal region of the Yellow Sea, China (35.4758 N 119.6138 E) in November 2014. The aim of the present study was to determine the exact taxonomic position of strain RZW2-1 T using a polyphasic approach.Seawater samples were spread on marine agar 2216 (MA; Becton Dickinson) and incubated at 25 8C. Strain RZW2-1 T was purified by streaking three times on MA. Cultures were maintained at 25 8C on MA plates and stocks were preserved at 280 8C in sterile 0.85 % (w/v) saline supplemented with 15 % (v/v) glycerol. P. geojedonensis YCS-9 T obtained from Korean Collection for Type Cultures (KCTC) was used as the reference strain, and was cultured as for strain RZW2-1 T [MA/marine broth 2216(MB; BD), 25 8C], unless otherwise specified.
