Background: Pseudo exfoliation syndrome (PXS) widely in world occurred with various prevalence rate and its risk factor has main role in rising IOP and glaucoma. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between PXS and its associations with elevation of IOP/Glaucoma.Methods: This is a cohort study that has been done on 144 patients of aged 50 and older referred to clinic of ophthalmology which was examined to the PXS depositions. PXS was diagnosed by slit lamp and a control group select matching with case group without PXS. All patients underwent a comprehensive ophthalmic evaluation by slit lamp and dilated pupil fundus for visual acuity, refraction, Tonometry and Gonioscopy.Results: Out of 144 eyes of control group, 112 (77.8%) had PXS depositions. There was a significant increase in number of PXS involved eyes with age and the frequency of disease in men was higher than women. Out of 72 patients, 40 (55.5%) patients were bilaterally and 32 (44.5%) patients were unilaterally involved. The mean of IOP in eyes with PXS with 17.9±8.9 was significantly higher than eyes without PXS with 14.5±2.9.Conclusions: PXS sediments are an important risk factor for increased IOP and glaucoma in our area and patients with PXS should be followed in term of IOP.

Aim: Pseudoexfoliation (PXE) is a common and clinically important systemic condition in elderly people that affects the outcome of cataract surgery. It can cause various complications during cataract surgery due to pupillary rigidity and zonular weakness and instability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency and types of complications of Phacoemulsification in patients with cataract and PXE. Materials and Methods: This cross sectional, prospective study was carried out on 60 eyes of 60 patients with cataract and PXE who underwent phacoemulsification in a tertiary care hospital. Their perioperative and postoperative complications were documented and analyzed. Results: Poor pupillary dilatation in spite of use of standard mydriatic drops and NSAID was the most common perioperative finding. This single factor made subsequent steps of surgery more difficult due to poor visualisation. Conclusion: Presence of associated PXE in cataract patients significantly increases the risk of vision threatening complications. Use of flexible iris hooks for small pupils, capsular tension rings for capsular stability and high viscosity viscoelastics are useful adjunct during surgical technique for good visual outcome.

Background: Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is characterized by the deposition of a distinctive fibrillar material in the anterior segment of the eye. This condition is a major risk factor for development of glaucoma, termed pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEXG). The aim of this study was to describe the characteristic and management of PEXG in the National Eye Center Cicendo Eye Hospital. Methods: A descriptive retrospective study was conducted in October-November 2012 using medical records of PEXG patients in the National Eye Center Cicendo Eye Hospital during January-October 2012. Results: There were 32 patients (43 eyes) diagnosed as PEXG, most of them were male (78.1%), age 70-74 years old (34.4%) and followed by those in the range of age 65-69 years old (21.9%). Most of the cases were unilateral (65.6%) decrease of visual acuity less than 3/60 (76.7%), increase of intraocular pressure (IOP) with majority in the range of 31-40 mmHg (32.6%) and 41-50 mmHg (32.6%), Cup/Disc Ratio 0.9-1.0 (46.51%) and followed by those classified as majority which were hard to assess because of the presence of opaque media (34.89%). The type of glaucoma was open angle glaucoma (88.4%). The treatment received was a combination of two types of antiglaucoma medication and surgery IOP Conclusion: PEXG is mostly found in elderly patients. While most of the patients come with high IOP and late stage of the disease IOP
