Protothecosis: a rare cutaneous infection in an army officer returned from deployment to Iraq

Abstract: patient had regularly used this medication preceding the usual timeframe (7-21 days) without issue. Previously reported cutaneous reactions to ecstasy include guttate psoriasis and acneiform eruption. 4,5 Given the popularity of illicit substances containing MDMA, as well as possible legal uses of this substance in the future, dermatologists should be aware of MDMA containing drugs as causative agents of severe cutaneous adverse reactions. A search for adulterants is prudent.
