Proteomic Analysis of Upland Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Exposed to Intermittent Water Deficit

Abstract: Rice is the most important crop consumed all over the world. In Brazil, irrigated rice covers 50 % of the rice producing area and is responsible for 75 % of the national production. Upland rice covers most of the remaining area, and is therefore, a very important production system in the country. In the present study, we have used the drought tolerant upland rice variety Três Meses Antigo to investigate the proteomic changes that occur during drought stress. Plants were submitted to drought by the reposition o… Show more

“…Changes in the transcriptome differs to changes at protein level ( Gygi et al., 1999 ; Bogeat-Triboulot et al., 2006 ; Morimoto and Yahara, 2018 ), necessitating studies into the proteome to elucidate the water stress response pathway in crop species ( Ford et al., 2011 ; Budak et al., 2013 ; Rabello et al., 2014 ; Liu et al., 2015 ; Chmielewska et al., 2016 ). In our study, we also found that our mutant RYNO3936 expressed proteins associated with osmotic stress tolerance (e.g.…”

“…As OsPP2C is a negative approach. This study led to the identification of 15 differential proteins of which seven showed increased abundance including an APX and a GSH-dependent dehydroascorbate reductase 1 (Rabello et al, 2014).…”

“…There are several proteins associated with the biosynthesis of plant hormones, their signalling pathways and drought tolerance (Rabello et al ., 2014). Owing to the low abundance of the hormone‐responsive proteins, it is relatively difficult to identify the proteins related to the hormone biosynthesis and signalling using a gel‐based proteomics approach.…”

“…They considered two genotypes, Morobereken (drought tolerant) and IR64 (drought sensitive), and reported 35 proteins of which eight were drought induced which includes glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, β-expansin and actin binding protein (Liu and Bennett, 2011). Table 1 provides details of the discussed proteomic studies performed in rice under drought stress (Ali and Komatsu, 2006; Zang and Komatsu, 2007; Rabello et al, 2008, 2014; Shu et al, 2011; Dong et al, 2014; Mirzaei et al, 2014; Agrawal et al, 2016; Wu et al, 2016). …”
