Proteome Changes of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Induced by 1,4-Benzoquinone

Abstract: Benzene is metabolized to hydroquinone in liver and subsequently transported to bone marrow for further oxidization to 1,4-benzoquinone (1,4-BQ), which may be related to the leukemia and other blood disorders. In the present study, we investigated the proteome profiles of human primary bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs) treated by 1,4-BQ. We identified 32 proteins that were differentially expressed. Two of them, HSP27 and Vimentin, were verified at both mRNA and protein levels and their cellular loc… Show more

“…These findings were consistent with previous studies 16 , 22 . Wu et al 23 found that the deformation amplitude (DA) exhibited excellent repeatability with a S w of 0.098, which was similar to our result, albeit slightly higher. Nemeth et al 17 showed good repeatability for IOP and pachymetric values, whereas other measurements.…”

“…All studies originated in Europe with the exception of Yu 2015, Dai 2014, and Zhang 2016 [ 19 , 21 , 22 ]. Nine studies were prospective in design [ 17 , 19 , 20 , 22 , 24 , 25 , 28 – 30 ], and seven were carried out at multiple institutions [ 17 , 18 , 20 , 21 , 24 , 25 , 31 ]. No phase IV trials were identified for inclusion.…”

“…All included studies received between five or six points on the NOS, suggesting that they carried an intermediate risk of bias. Two studies, De Vos 2013 and Zhang 2016, included patients already in clinical remission, additional sensitivity analyses were run with these studies excluded (Additional file 3 : Figure S1) [ 17 , 22 ].…”

“…Multiple studies have linked benzene exposure to reduced leukocytes, erythrocytes, neutrophil, and lymphocytes counts. 163 , 164 Benzene metabolites significantly impair survival of cultured human BM MSCs 165 and alter the function of human BM endothelial cells. 166 , 167 Furthermore, benzene increases the risk of a broad range of hematological malignancies and disorders.…”
