Protective effects of Lactobacillus reuteri and Bifidobacterium infantis in murine models for colitis do not involve the vagus nerve

Abstract: CD62Lϩ T lymphocytes from BALB/c into SCID mice. LR and BI (1 ϫ 10 9 ) were given daily. Clinical score, myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels, and in vivo and in vitro secreted inflammatory cytokine levels were found to be more severe in mice that were vagotomized compared with shamoperated animals. LR in the acute DSS model was effective in decreasing the MPO and cytokine levels in the tissue in sham and vagotomized mice. BI had a strong downregulatory effect on secreted in vitro cytokine levels and had a greater ant… Show more

“…In the GI tract, expansion of antigen-specific Tregs is tightly regulated . This observation is in line with a previous report by van der Kleij H et al, showing that VGX had no effect in chronic model of colitis (28). Interestingly, these data are in contrast with the worsening effect of VGX in DSS colitis models.…”

“…Mice were administered B. longum 35624, sEPS neg , or sEPS comp daily by oral gavage. As previously described, B. longum 35624 treatment prevented weight loss and disease symptoms in this model (34). However, mice treated with the sEPS neg strain exhibited significant weight loss and severe disease symptoms, while restoration of EPS production in the sEPS comp strain promoted a response similar to that of mice treated with B. longum 35624 (Fig.…”

“…[15][16][17] In the present study, the LAB-E. coli shuttle vector pHIL253 was constructed for expression and secretion of CTB. The pHIL253 vector contains ori-177 from pHY300PLK and pAMβ1 from pIL253, along with the ampicillin resistance gene of pHY300PLK and the erythromycin resistance gene of pIL253 (Fig.…”
