Protective Effects of Baicalin and Octreotide on Multiple Organ Injury in Severe Acute Pancreatitis

Abstract: Both Baicalin and Octreotide have obvious protective effects on the multiple organ injury in SAP with mechanisms associated to manifold factors. By comparing the pharmacologic effects of Octreotide and Baicalin, we believe that Baicalin as a new drug has a protective effect on multiple organs of a SAP rat model similar to that of Octreotide and is worth further study and development.

“…Fix them according to the related requirements, observe the pathological changes of pancreas after HE staining and compare the pathological scores among groups. The standard of pancreas pathological score was in accordance with reference [2] . The content of amylase, endotoxin in plasma, and TNF-α, IL-6 and PLA2 in serum of all groups were determined at different time points.…”

“…Several previous studies demonstrated that baicalin attenuated lung edema in the rats model of air embolism-induced acute lung injury, multiple organ injury in sever acute pancreatitis and sepsis induced by cecal ligation and puncture (Ding et al 2016;Li et al 2009;Zhang et al 2008). Our results showed that baicalin also attenuated lung edema in LPS-induced acute lung injury.…”

“…Recent studies indicate that baicalin exerts a multitude of pharmacological activities including inhibition of platelet aggregation (Lee et al 2015), reduction of endotoxin generation (Liu et al 2008) and bacteria resistance (Liu et al 2000). Zhang et al 2008 have shown that baicalin improved tissue injury in experimental sepsis and multiple organ injury in severe pancreatitis. Moreover, baicalin attenuated air embolism-induced ALI and inhibited inflammatory effects against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI (Ding et al 2016;Li et al 2009).…”
