Protecting Built Property Against Fire Disasters: Multi ‐attribute Decision Making With Respect to Fire Risk

Abstract: The protection of buildings against fire disasters may require a comparison of alternative fire safety designs. The fire safety solutions can be compared by means of a general methodology known as multi‐attribute selection or multi‐criteria decision making. The alternative fire designs can be described by a number of attributes which characterise each of the alternatives. Fire risk expressed in the general form used for the quantitative risk assessment is applied to compose the set of attributes of a multi‐att… Show more

“…Practical procedures for ranking and weighting the zones can be borrowed in the field of multiple criteria decision making (MCDM). For instance, the weights p k can be specified by organising an expert panel and utilising expert opinions by means of a well-known MCDM method called AHP (e.g., Luria, Aspinall 2003;Turskis, Zavadskas 2010;Vaidogas, Šakėnaitė 2010Vaidogas, Šakėnaitė , 2011.…”

“…The standard QRA approach to uncertainty modelling is a separate treatment of stochastic and epistemic uncertainties, usually by applying a nested-loop stochastic simulation (e.g., [11,12]). This simulation will require to evaluate the SC models m i a large number of times and so the complexity of m i will be an important factor influencing the computational time.…”

“…Uncertainties of certain degree will be always inherent in mechanical models describing behaviour of blast walls. A consistent quantification of the uncertainties related to blast loading and protective structures subjected to it is possible by a combined application of structural reliability analysis (SRA) and methodological tools developed in the field of quantitative risk assessment (QRA) [8][9][10][11].…”
