Prostatic-specific antigen (PSA) levels in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS): a meta-analysis

Abstract: Purpose The polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a reproductive endocrine disorder, clinically characterized by oligo-ovulation/chronic anovulation, menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism (such as hirsutism, acne), hyperinsulinemia, and obesity. Prostatic-specific antigen (PSA) has been identified as a potential new marker in PCOS women. Although the precise role of PSA in PCOS patients still remains undetermined, PSA might serve as a useful clinical marker and might even represent a new dia… Show more

“…Finally, it should be noted that in women, serum PSA levels are related to androgenic activity [219]. For example, patients with polycystic ovary syndrome present high levels of PSA and its fractions, which may therefore have some clinical value [220,221].…”

“…A great variety of computational toxicology methodologies have been developed and applied in drug discovery, risk assessment of chemicals, and safety evaluation of products. Because these studies regarding public health effects and safe manipulation of BPA replacement compounds are still extremely limited, computational predictive modeling becomes a very important tool for searching safe BPA replacement compounds and performing their safety evaluations. For example, researchers have developed a variety of computational models to predict the endocrine-disrupting potential, testicular toxicity, estrogen and androgen receptor binding activities, and the underlying molecular mechanisms, metabolism, and probabilistic risk assessments of BPA and its analogues .…”

“…Inflammation is also one of the risk factors, and any disturbance of the level of inflammatory factors may lead to the dysfunction of ovarian function ( 10 ). In addition, a meta-analysis suggested a significant correlation between PCOS and prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and the role of PSA in patients with PCOS cannot be ignored clinically ( 11 ).…”
