Prostatakarzinomdiagnostik durch Ultraschallelastographie

Abstract: During the last decade screening has improved prostate cancer detection. The main reason for this development is a better understanding of the margins of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) serum levels and the classification of PSA subtypes. In contrast, the introduction of transrectal ultrasound has not led to a measurable change in the prostate cancer detection rate. Our aim was to develop a novel ultrasound system for the acquisition of elastographic images of the prostate and evaluate the system regarding its… Show more

“…[ 6 43 ] Elastography has already proved its valuable clinical utility in applications such as breast cancer diagnosis[ 44 45 46 47 48 49 ] or assessment of liver fibrosis,[ 43 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 57 58 ] adding complementary information to conventional US. It has also shown promising results in applications such as thyroid nodules,[ 59 60 ] pancreatic masses,[ 19 21 28 61 62 ] chronic pancreatitis,[ 42 63 64 ] autoimmune pancreatitis,[ 65 ] prostate cancer,[ 66 67 68 ] or LNs assessment. “…These methods (summarized in a review by Greenleaf et al (2003)) interrogate tissue mechanical properties and produce images that are generally representative of underlying tissue stiffness. Elasticity imaging methods have shown clinical promise for in vivo detection of malignancies located in the breast (Cespedes et al 1993, Garra et al 1997, McKnight et al 2002, Bercoff et al 2003, Sharma et al 2004, Sinkus et al 2005, Itoh et al 2006, Insana et al 2004, prostate (Lorenz et al 1999, Cochlin et al 2002, Souchon et al 2003, Sommerfeld et al 2003, Konig et al 2005 and other organs (Chakraborty et al 2006, Lyshchik et al 2005. Further, direct mechanical measurements of resected liver samples have indicated that elastic contrast also exists for many tumors in the liver (Yeh et al 2002).…”

“…The sample height (L ph (cs)) is determined by finding the distance between the imaging window and the compression plate in the OCT images. The change in phantom height was used to calculate the strain in between each compression step (2).…”
