Prospective follow-up study of 423 children born after intracytoplasmic sperm injection

Abstract: In order to evaluate the safety of the intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) procedure, a prospective follow-up study of 423 children born after ICSI was carried out. The aim of this study was to compile data on karyotypes, congenital malformations, growth parameters and developmental milestones. Before starting the infertility treatment, couples were asked to participate in a follow-up study including genetic counselling and prenatal diagnosis. The follow-up study of the child was based on a visit to the pa… Show more

“…The incidence of congenital abnormality in ICSI children (2.3%) is no greater than in every normal population studied (Bonduelle et al, 1995(Bonduelle et al, , 1998a(Bonduelle et al, , 1998b(Bonduelle et al, , 1999. Even the few reported ICSI offspring of Klinefelter's patients have been chromosomally normal Staessen et al, 1996;Levron et al, 2000).…”

“…Simple karyotyping of infertile men also raised the possibility of infertility being associated with autosomal translocations (Van Assche et al, 1996; Bonduelle et al, 1995Bonduelle et al, , 1996Bonduelle et al, , 1998aBonduelle et al, , 1998bBonduelle et al, , 1999Egozcue et al, 2000). A massive summary of karyotyping results in newborn populations, reviewed by Van Assche, revealed an incidence of balanced autosomal translocations in a normal newborn population of 0.25% but an incidence of 1.3%, in infertile men (Table Ia) (Van Assche et al., 1996).…”

“…The studies were accused of design flows, including the retrospective nature of most of them. In addition, the debate was enlivened by several studies clashing with the evidence of safety risks associated with ART procedures: no evidence for worries in IVF/ICSI babies was in fact repeatedly reported (Bonduelle et al, 1996;Romundstad et al, 2008).…”

“…По данным D. Meschede и др., у них выявляется высокая частота развития врожденных аномалий хромосом и аутосом-ных транслокаций. Возможно, это является наследуемым признаком и передается потом-ству, что повышает у них также риск развития бесплодия [7][8][9]. По данным K.J.…”
