Abstract:With the strong trend toward sustainable technologies, such as the gradual substitution of fossil fuel consumption, improvement in the utilization of sugars from lignocellulosic biomass appears to be an alternative for bioenergy. However, from a number of C 5 sugars, few are used in fermentative processes for ethanol production. One of the reasons is because wild-type Saccharomyces cerevisiae is unable to efficiently co-utilize hexoses and pentoses via specific transporters for each type of sugar. Thus, a syst… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
