Proposal of the Prediction Method Using a Competing Risk Model on the Bending Strength of 2D-C/C Composites

Abstract: Bending strength of a 2D-C/C composite was studied by experimental and theoretical approaches, and the prediction method on the basis of stress-related fracture mode was proposed. In the experiment, three-point bending test and observation of fracture surface were carried out to clarify the stress-related fracture modes. From the fracture surface observation, three kinds of fracture modes were identified: the compressive, tensile and the shear fracture modes. In the theoretical approach, the Weibull strength t… Show more

“…The basic characteristics of the C/C composite were determined, and the strength prediction method was investigated. [7][8][9][10][11][12] Twodimensional C/C composite (2D-C/C composite, CX-270G made by TOYO TANSO Co., LTD.) is one of the candidate materials, from the viewpoints of high strength at high temperature and low fabrication cost, for ceramic control rod elements of the VHTR.…”
