Propionyl-L-Carnitine Improves Hemodynamics and Metabolic Markers of Cardiac Perfusion during Coronary Surgery in Diabetic Patients

Abstract: Significant improvement of hemodynamics following propionyl-L-carnitine administration in diabetic patients undergoing on-bypass coronary surgery was accompanied by reduced trans-cardiac endothelin difference and rapid hypoxanthine washout during reperfusion suggesting improvement of metabolism or vascular function.

“…Intravenous PLC administered prior to coronary artery bypass grafting significantly improved early post‐operative recovery in diabetic patients by increasing the cardiac index and reducing pulmonary artery pressure 101 . PLC also reduced transcardiac endothelin concentrations and accelerated myocardial hypoxanthine washout.…”

“…As controls, extracts obtained from left ventricular biopsies of hearts with normal function taken from patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) were reanalyzed for creatine metabolite content. 15 The authors had full access to the data and take responsibility for its integrity.
