“…A subgroup analysis was conducted for 26 RCTs involving 4,878 patients in which the agents were administered during surgery [40, 43, 45, 53, 59, 74, 78, 79, 83, 86–89, 97, 102, 112, 113, 115, 117, 119, 123, 125, 132, 138, 142, 150]. The results were the same as for the primary analysis, except that significantly fewer patients of all ages receiving dolasetron experienced arrhythmia compared with placebo (OR 0.58, 95 % CI 0.36–0.93) and ramosetron (OR 0.38, 95 % CI 0.17–0.92) (Additional file 1: Appendix 13).…”

“…Ramosetron, another selective 5-HT 3 receptor antagonist, has been reported to be effective for the prevention and treatment of PONV after various surgeries [21-27]. Previous investigations have shown that ramosetron 0.3 mg was more effective than ondansetron 4 mg in patients with spine surgery, total knee arthroplasty, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy [22,24,27] and as effective as ondansetron 8 mg in patients with gynecological surgery and laparoscopic surgery [25,27].…”

“…Choi et al [8] reported that PCA-administered continuous infusion of ramosetron, combined with a single injection of ramosetron, significantly decreased the incidence of PONV. Ondansetron was also reported to be effective when administered continuously via a PCA [17].…”

“…In the case of another 5-HT 3 receptor antagonist, ramosetron, it was proposed that higher receptor occupancy indicated more extensive antiemetic action [19], and it was hypothesized that continuous infusion of the drug following single injection would maintain higher receptor occupancy [8]. Palonosetron exhibits significant receptor occupation for as long as 4 days [18].…”
