Properties of thermal conductivity, density and hardness of aluminium matrices with reinforcement of sicw / al2o3 hybrid after sintering process

Abstract: The material of composite hybrid Al / (SiCw + Al2O3) is a mixture of fine aluminium powder as a matrix while Silicon Carbide whiskers (SiCw) and Alumina (Al2O3) as reinforcement. Powder metallurgy method is used to manufacture composites according to the form of test specimens. Testing without treatment and after sintering treatment with temperature parameters and sintering time of 500 and 600°C at holding time 6 hours. This research was conducted to know the properties of thermal conductivity, hardness, densi… Show more

“…. This is supported by previous research which states that the increase in temperature affects the size of the pore, where the pore size decreases from the increasing treatment temperature due to phase changes [5,27]. In the SEM photos with different magnifications, their function is to clarify the surface morphology of the composites that are made.…”

“…In previous research, the manufacture of Al/(SiCw+Al 2 O 3 ) hybrid composites using a mixture of fine aluminum powder as a matrix while silica carbide (SiCw) and alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) as reinforcement with powder metallurgy method gave the result that the sintering process could affect the composite on its physical properties and mechanics. The addition of the weight percent composition of SiCw and alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) has an effect on the physical and mechanical properties of the composite, where the density and wear increases with each addition of alumina itself [5].…”

“…The selection of suitable ball milling parameters, such as milling speed, time, powder to weight ratio, and so forth, and appropriate microwave sintering parameters, such as sintering temperature, time, power, holding time, and so forth, contributed to producing the compacts with uniform distribution reinforcements. Usually, an increasing percentage in reinforcement leads to an increase in the porosity of the composites, as reflected in Figure 2 [43,44].…”
