Properties of lithium aluminate for application as an OSL dosimeter

Abstract: Several samples of lithium aluminate (LiAlO 2 ) were prepared in an attempt to achieve material, which can be applicable in optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dosimetry. Both undoped and carbon or copper doped lithium aluminate samples were investigated. The results of preliminary study of theirs reproducibility, sensitivity, dose response characteristic and fading are presented. Applications in mixed field (beta, alpha, neutrons) dosimetry are discussed.

“…5,8 Other near tissue-equivalent materials such as aluminates and silicates have been found to suffer from the limitations of high fading of about 80% within a month and are highly hygroscopic in nature. 9 Compared to commercial Al 2 O 3 :C, a much lower sensitivity was achieved for LiAlO 2 :Cu,P and MgO:Tb. 10 Ammonium salts and Fluorosilicates such as NH 4 Br and (NH 4 ) 2 SiF 6 have also been reported to suffer from the higher fading of more than 80% within 10 hours.…”

“…Lithium aluminates (LiAlO 2 ) are important materials in various health and energy applications. For instance, in dosimetry, γ‐LiAlO 2 is considered as a novel material for optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), offering a superior sensitivity to the conventional carbon‐doped Al 2 O 3 . In batteries, LiAlO 2 nanocrystals and mesoporous materials are critical components in the electrolyte composites .…”

“…Isotope 6 Li-enriched -LiAlO 2 has been proposed as a promising material for development of neutron dosimeters [1] and has been considered as a candidate for production of tritium in fusion reactor designs [2]. It has also been used as a solid breeder material in support of tritium readiness campaign [3].…”
