Properties of Ethylene-Acrylic Acid Copolymers

Abstract: The constant rm is the position of the maximum ordinate of the distribution, í the measure of standard deviation, and erfc-1 the inverse error function complement.Ackers showed for several gels that a plot of rv vs.erfc-1(Kd) was linear and that rm and í could be taken to be calibration constants for a given gel. In present work, the available values of Kd = (Ve -V0)/Vi were graphed in terms of the inverse error function complement, erfc-1(Kd),34 vs. the corresponding estimated molecular radii, rv, to yield th… Show more

“…No absorption was observed at 1750 cm 21 (isolated carbonyls of COOH groups), indicating dimerization of the carboxylic acid functionalities. 18 Interestingly, the recovered PEAA-25 and PEAA-12.5 in their dry forms readily dissolved in a mixture of CHCl 3 and TFA, or THF, which was inconsistent with literature on related functionalized polyethylenes. 19 The molecular characteristics of the PEBAs, PEMMAs, PEAAs, and the unsaturated precursors are summarized in Table 1 and Supporting Information, Table S1.…”

“…For a cation exchange ionomer the dominant mobility is the diffusion of cations which induces a controlled charge density gradient across the polymer Walters et al (2002;Kreuer 2001;Otocka and Kwei 1968;McLean et al 2000).…”

“…In comparison with polystyrene, the smaller K , in this copolymer reflects the fact that volume shrinkage accompanying the dimerization of carboxyl groups is less than that produced by a covalent crosslink. 23 In the same way, in order to estimate the effects of sodium ions as crosslinks by using this theory, the authors calculated the ionic crosslink density Figure 8.…”
