Properties and Applications of Bamboo Fiber–A Current-State-of-the Art

Abstract: Fibers are used in many forms in engineering applications-one of the most common being used as reinforcement. Due to its renewable short natural growth cycle and abundance of bamboo resources, bamboo fiber has attracted attention over other natural fibers. Bamboo fiber has a complex natural structure but offers excellent mechanical properties, which are utilized in the textile, papermaking, construction, and composites industry. However, bamboo fibers can easily absorb moisture and are prone to corrosion limit… Show more

“…According to the basic skeleton of lignin (as shown in Fig. 3) [58], some scholars proposed to use highboiling alcohols such as ethylene glycol, 1,3-butanediol, and 1,4-butanediol as solvents to separate lignin. This method can obtain high yield of lignin without using catalyst, and the solvent can be recycled [59].…”

“…But, bamboo fibers can effortlessly absorb moisture and are prone to corrosion limiting their use in engineering applications. (1) Plasma treatment has higher moisture absorption, higher dye uptake and eco-friendly surroundings. By means of plasma treatment, the practical finishes might be imparted which encompass antimicrobial, soil repellency, stain resistance, smooth manage and advanced dyeing.…”
