Promotive Effects of Far-Infrared Ray on Full-Thickness Skin Wound Healing in Rats

Abstract: The biological effects of far-infrared ray (FIR) on whole organisms remain poorly understood. The aim of our study was to investigate not only the hyperthermic effect of the FIR irradiation, but also the biological effects of FIR on wound healing. To evaluate the effect of FIR on a skin wound site, the speed of full-thickness skin wound healing was compared among groups with and without FIR using a rat model. We measured the skin wound area, skin blood flow, and skin temperature before and during FIR irradiati… Show more

“…MIG3 bioceramics, an infrared emitter, incorporated in clothes (gloves, shorts, dressings), allows its use at home, in a simple and non-invasive way, at work, and even during sleep, thereby facilitating a patient's daily life. recent evidence claims that it can control pain, inflammation, accelerate healing in the post-operative period, and minimize the use of drugs and its side effects, through self-regulation mechanism [12][13][14][15][16] . The objective of this study is evaluate the impact of the use of MIG3 bioceramic over four weeks on pain, intolerance to cold and periodic leg movement in patients with post-polio syndrome.…”

“…10 Far infrared (FIR) radiation is an invisible electromagnetic wave with a characteristic wavelength between 5.6 and 1000 m that can be perceived as heat by thermo-receptors in the skin. 15,16 Recent studies indicate that FIR therapy exerts beneficial effects in the cardiovascular system. FIR radiation improves ventricular arrhythmias and endothelial function in patients with heart disease.…”

“…According to the difference in wavelength, infrared radiation can be divided into three categories: Near-infrared radiation (0.8 to 1.5 m), middle-infrared radiation (1.5 to 5.6 m), and far-infrared (FIR) radiation (5.6 to 1000 m) (6). Infrared radiation transfers energy that is perceived as heat by thermoreceptors in the surrounding skin (7).…”
