Promotion of Seedling Growth and Production of Wheat by Using Trichoderma spp.

Abstract: The fungus Trichoderma spp. is known due to its versatility for promoting crop growth and grain yield, improving the nutrient absorption and increasing the grain yield. The objective of this work was to evaluate commercial strains of Trichoderma spp. and an organomineral fertilizer in the early growth promotion and grain yield of wheat plants. Thus, wheat seeds cv. BRS 264 were treated with 2 mL of a Trichoderma suspension (2.5 × 10 8 conidia mL -1 per 100 g seed) and submitted to growth in laboratory until 8 … Show more

“…Concerning the total fresh mass and total dry mass, all plants grown in soil treated with Trichoderma, do not differed from each other, it is evident that the commercial strains of Trichoderma were essential to obtain the TFM and BIO superior to the control. An explanation for this fact could rely on the study carried out by Oliveira et al (2018), where wheat plants inoculated with different Trichoderma strains, presented higher values of total fresh mass and total dry mass when compared to the control. This is, it presented greater roost system development and as consequence, increase in the fresh mass in several parts of the plant.…”

“…It effectively antagonizes soil pathogens (Wilson et al, 2008;Percival et al, 2011;Roberti et al, 2015;Fatouros et al, 2018) and can trigger ISR against diverse above-and belowground attackers (Tucci et al, 2011;Vitti et al, 2016;Coppola et al, 2017Coppola et al, , 2019Debode et al, 2018;Pocurull et al, 2020;Alınç et al, 2021). Besides promoting plant growth, T. harzianum ESALQ1306 has been shown to highly reduce Sclerotinia sclerotiorum disease severity through parasitism and to induce ISR against spider mites (Geraldine et al, 2013;De Oliveira et al, 2018;Barroso et al, 2019;Canassa et al, 2020). In contrast, R. irregularis is not a direct antagonist of plant pathogens, but is able to induce ISR against root and foliar pathogens (Martínez-Medina et al, 2011;Sanchez-Bel et al, 2016;Bidellaoui et al, 2019;Campo et al, 2020;Sanmartín et al, 2020).…”

“…Therefore, the differences in germination promoting effects could be attributed to the specific association released between individual wheat cultivar and particular Trichoderma strain. Similarly, four various Trichoderma strains applied in wheat BRS 264 displayed different promoting potential ranging from 3% to 8%, while T. harzianum ESALQ 1306 provided the best results regarding germination and seedling performances under greenhouse conditions [ 48 ]. Trichoderma may improve germination by increasing the synthesis of endogenous plant growth regulators by up-regulation of genes for their synthesis and by down-regulation of genes included in their catabolism [ 49 ].…”
