“…It is reported that patients with hypothalamic lesions and IGHD often, but not invariably (Snyder et al 1974;Roitman et al 1980), show delayed and prolonged TSH responses to TRH (Hall et al 1972; Kaplan et al 1972;Faglia et al 1973;Illig et al 1975;Burger and Patel 1977;Okada et al 1978 ;Gamier et al 1983). In this study, all IGHD patients were of euthyroid state, but they showed delayed TSH responses to TRH as was seen also in 2ry GHD patients.…”

“…There is, however, relatively little information on the PRL response to TRH in children (Foley et al 1972;Kaplan et al 1972;Okada et al 1978 ;Suter et al 1978 ;Roitman et al 1980;Abe et al 1982Abe et al , 1983). Since it has been known that PRL plays some role for breast development (Frantz 1981) …”

“…However, the information on PRL response to arginine is scarce in children [2,4]. Since growth hormone (GH) deficiency is often associated with PRL deficiency [8] and arginine infusion permits the simultaneous determination of GH response which has its own diagnostic value, we thought it of interest to explore the characteristics of PRL release following arginine infusion in children. The present study shows that in children without GH deficiency arginine infusion over a 30-min period elicited a significant rise in plasma PRL and its elevation was greater in pubertal than in prepubertal children in both sexes.…”

“…The determination of PRL levels and its response to provocative stimuli has been described to be useful for investigating hypothalmo-pituitary function [5,8,9]. Among provocative stimuli, thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) is most often used as a potent stimulus for PRL secretion.…”
