Progress in combined modification of rubberized asphalt

Abstract: The traditional rubberized asphalt has various disadvantages such as low resistance to rutting, difficulty in stabilized during manufacture, poor fluidity during processing and pollution. Combined modification of rubberized asphalt is reviewed in this paper for developing an effective way to resolve the above mentioned problems. According to the chemical properties of rubber asphalt composite modifiers, it is divided into four types: polymer, inorganic substance, plasticizer and other four types. The reasons f… Show more

“…Tire production has increased year by year with the development of the vehicle industry, and a large number of abandoned tires have also been produced [1]. In recent years, with the strengthening of people's environmental awareness, the processing of waste tires into crumb rubber for other industries has become a common method to deal with 'black garbage' [2]. The application of waste crumb rubber as a green and environmentally friendly material in road engineering can not only encourage the utilization of solid waste resources and protect the environment, but it can also save resources and reduce costs.…”

“…An independent way of modifying petroleum bitumen is by injecting crumb rubber obtained from the complex processing of end-of-life tyres and other rubber products [1][2][3]. This method contains the obvious advantages [4,5] and negative experience of operating asphalt concrete modified with crumb rubber [6,7]. Several promising methods have been developed to eliminate the disadvantages of bitumen modification with crumb rubber, which usually consists of the destruction of the rubber surface due to strong shear effects [8][9][10], the impact of ionizing radiation [11] or devulcanizer treatment [12][13][14][15].…”
