Programmable PFC based hybrid multipulse power rectifier for ultra clean power application

Abstract: Abstract-A novel hybrid three-phase rectifier is proposed. It is capable to achieve high input power factor (PF) and low total harmonic input currents distortion (THD ). The proposed hybrid high power rectifier is composed by a standard three-phase six-pulse diode rectifier (Graetz bridge) with a parallel connection of single-phase Sepic rectifiers in each three-phase rectifier leg. Such topology results in a structure capable of programming the input current waveform and providing conditions for obtaining hig… Show more

“…Therefore several techniques like passive, active and the combination of these techniques for Power Factor correction and THD i reduction are studied in the literature [1], [2].There are a reasonable number of recent utility interface proposals which are intent to improve mains current quality using threephase diode-based rectifiers associated to DC-DC stages such as the boost or SEPIC topologies [3]- [5]. The application of multipulse converters is a suitable and very-well accepted technique for power factor correction of three-phase AC-DC stages, providing low-ripple of the rectified output voltage and reduced total harmonic distortion (THD i ) in the line currents.…”

“…This technique reduces harmonics and consequently improves the power factor. However, use of hybrid combination of active and passive wave shaping techniques provides a more efficient, effective and economic solution for PQ in many applications [15,16]. Amongst many attempts for PQ improvement in HVDC system, most of the applications are current source converter (CSC) based HVDC using twelve-pulse controlled converter topology.…”

“…In the last years, the search for rectifiers that comprise the better features of diode bridge rectifiers and the advantages of PWM rectifiers introduces a new class of three-phase rectifiers with low effect on the mains, the Hybrid Rectifiers [12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19][20].…”
