Hospital Infection is a major health problem and affects around 1.5 million people annually around the world. The Amazon region has a wide diversity of native palm trees that have fruits and oilseeds. Astrocaryum vulgare, commonly known as Tucumã in Brazil, belongs to the family Arecaceae. This palm has orange, fleshy, single-egg-shaped fruits that are used for therapeutic purposes in diseases of the eyes and skin due to the high content of carotenoids, oil is used in cooking, health treatment and massage. This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of the Tucumã oil against 18 microorganisms. The antimicrobial activity of Tucumã was measured through the determination of the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC), as well as the determination of the Minimum Microbicidal Concentration (CMM) aiming to contribute to the discovery of new antimicrobials against pathogenic microorganisms’ human health and may contribute to the treatment of nosocomial infections. The results showed that the oil of Tucumã presented antimicrobial activity against five important bacteria, four Gram - positive bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus agalactiae) and one Gram - negative (Acinetobacter baumannii).

Objetivo: Determinar os microrganismos contaminantes do ambiente hospitalar e avaliar o perfil de resistência a antimicrobianos dos isolados oriundos da unidade de terapia intensiva adulta de um hospital localizado na região noroeste do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Métodos: Foram analisadas 216 amostras, coletadas das diferentes superfícies da unidade de terapia intensiva Adulta, em dois dias alternados, antes e depois da limpeza terminal. Os isolados foram identificados através de técnicas microbiológicas convencionais. Os testes de susceptibilidade foram realizados baseados no protocolo M100-S23 do CLSI, 2013. Resultados: Das 216 amostras, 115 (53,2 %) apresentaram crescimento microbiológico. Os microrganismos que apresentaram maior prevalência foram Staphylococcus coagulase negativo (43,4 %), seguido por Staphylococcus aureus (20,5 %), Bacilos gram positivos (14,7 %), Acinetobacter iwofii (4,9 %), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (4,9 %), Klebsiella pneumoniae (4,1 %), Acinetobacter baumanii (2,5 %), Acinetobacter calcoaceticus (1,7%), Candida albicans, Escherichia coli e Citrobacter freundii (0,82%). Dentre os isolados cocos gram positivos 27,4 % apresentaram resistência a penicilina e 18,0 % a clindamicina, já entre as enterobacterias 25,0 % demonstraram resistência a amoxicilina e 14,3 % a ceftriaxona. Conclusão: Constatou-se que as maiores prevalências foram dos gêneros SCN, seguido por S. aureus, bem como, observou-se crescimento de microrganismos de importante patogenecidade. O perfil de sensibilidade demonstrou que as bactérias isoladas apresentam resistência a muito dos antibióticos utilizados. Diante dos fatos, a adoção de boas práticas de desinfecção e higiene são uma possibilidade para a redução da carga microbiana no ambiente hospitalar.

Objective: To identify in the literature the tools used to measure self-efficacy of health professionals in hand hygiene. Methods: Integrative literature review carried out by consulting the databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Europe PubMed Central, and Science Direct using the descriptors Self Efficacy, Hand Hygiene, and Health Personnel. Results: Six articles, all of which with observational design, were selected. It was possible to infer that four studies used validated instruments to measure self-efficacy of health professionals in the conformity with the recommendations for hand hygiene. The other studies used questionnaires that were not validated. Final considerations: Despite the extensive literature on hand hygiene, there is a lack of scientific evidence regarding the use of validated instruments to measure self-efficacy of health professionals in the procedure. The use of properly validated psychometric instruments is useful to guarantee the quality of results in studies.
