Prognostic value of N‐terminal pro C‐type natriuretic peptide in heart failure patients with preserved and reduced ejection fraction

Abstract: Aims A‐type and B‐type natriuretic peptides are established markers in chronic heart failure (HF). C‐type natriuretic peptide (CNP) belongs to the same peptide family, but is predominantly localized in the endothelium. The prognostic role of CNP in heart failure has not been established. The aim of the study was to determine the prognostic power and clinical correlates of the N‐terminal part of pro CNP (NT‐proCNP) in patients with chronic HF. Methods and results In 567 hospitalized heart failure patients, NT‐p… Show more

“…CNP molecular forms in the urine and plasma are currently assessed using proprietary radio- or sandwich immunoassays [14] [38] [44-46]. Reproducibility and a high degree of sensitivity and specificity have been reported within individual pre-clinical and clinical research studies, particularly with the use of the radioimmunoassays [14, 44, 47].…”

“…14 Recently the potential biomarker function of circulating CNP and/or NT-proCNP has been explored in human HF. 15 A recent Japanese-Western consensus on biomarkers reflected Japan's standing. The bulk of the report generated from this meeting and published in 2011 focuses on the cardiac NPs and East-West consensus statements were heavily underpinned by references to seminal publications from Japan between 1989 and 2010.…”
