“…Cyst rupture [40 -42] and delayed laparotomy after laparoscopic removal of ovarian masses later found malignant, [43] as well as deoxyribo nucleic acid (DNA) ploidy [28,44,45] or combined scores of different biological markers such as DNA content, MIB1, p53, and WAF-1 [39] may have therapeutic consequences. “…[24,25] Tumors were classified as transitional-cell carcinoma when exhibiting more than 50% of corresponding patterns [26] and uniform tumor grading was performed. [28] Immunohistochemistry was applied on 2 -3-mm-thick sections of representative tumor areas, including two or more specimens per case, if necessary, due to variations in tumor differentiation.…”

“…This finding is well supported in the literature [39,40,50,52,64] . The presence of this atypical DNA suggests a prognosis that is poorer than a sample with normal DNA [6,8,11,13,14,16,24,39,41,43,52,59,60,66,70] . The aneuploid characterization of these benign tumors should at least require a closer, independent pathological examination.…”

“…Valverde et al [59] in a study of 77 cases of stage I-II ovarian cancer after comprehensive surgical staging showed that flow cytometric DNA quantification was the main independent prognostic factor of relapse and survival in these women. Pfisterer et al [60] measured DNA content and S-phase fraction, with flow cytometry, of tumor specimens from 162 women with no pretreated surgically staged FIGO stage I endometrial cancer using clearly defined inclusion criteria.…”

“…This is consistent with a previous study by Valverde et al . who found no association between DNA ploidy and p53 . The other possible mechanism for DNA aneuploidy in sporadic ovarian cancers is BRCA1 inactivation through mechanisms other than mutation such as methylation .…”
