Prognostic Significance of Extracellular Matrix Metalloproteinase Inducer and Matrix Metalloproteinase 2 in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Aims: We investigated the prognostic significance of extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN) and matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2) in epithelial ovarian cancer as well as their relation to hyaluronan (HA) expression. Methods: The expression of EMMPRIN and MMP-2 was analyzed immunohistochemically in 295 primary epithelial ovarian cancer patients and 67 metastases. Results: A low membranous EMMPRIN expression was detected more often in serous tumors than in other types (p < 0.0005) and it was a… Show more

“…There are already papers showing that basigin is associated with the survival and progression of ovarian cancer, and is considered as a biomarker of poor outcome [39-41]. However, some results show that basigin is a significant indicator of a favorable prognosis of ovarian cancer [42,43]. In the present study, we described the relationship between basigin-2 expression and clinicopathological parameters of 146 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer with immunohistochemical analysis.…”

“…Of note, only one study showed an increase in DFS with elevated CD147 expression [ 96 ]. There were 13 studies that did not have multivariate analysis data available ([ 26 , 57 , 60 , 62 , 71 , 72 , 77 , 82 , 84 , 91 , 92 , 99 , 100 ]; Supplementary Table 4). Of these, 8 had statistically significant univariate analysis revealing that elevated CD147 correlates with decreased DFS ([ 26 , 57 , 62 , 71 , 72 , 82 , 99 , 100 ]; Supplementary Table 4).…”

“…Some studies have been published on the prognostic value of MMP2, MMP7 and TIMP2 in ovarian cancers, but it is still controversial. Most of them overexpressed in tumors, peritoneal implants or metastatic lesions that associated with poor outcome, but others predicted better survival [150154]. Anyway, the effect of MMPs on the degradation of extracellular matrix to promote cell movement and migration is no doubt.…”
