Basigin-2 is the predominant basigin isoform that promotes tumor cell migration and invasion and correlates with poor prognosis in epithelial ovarian cancer

Abstract: BackgroundBasigin, which has four isoforms, has been demonstrated to be involved in progression of various human cancers. The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic value of basigin-2 protein expression in epithelial ovarian cancer. Furthermore, the function of basigin-2 in ovarian cancer was further investigated in cell culture models.MethodsImmunohistochemistry staining was performed to investigate basigin-2 expression in a total of 146 ovarian tissue specimens. Kaplan Meier analysis and Cox proport… Show more

“…EMMPRIN is up-regulated in a number of different cancers, in which its levels correlate with a poor prognosis in cancer patients [21,[91][92][93][94]. MMPs have been identified as potential therapeutic targets in cancers for a long time [95][96][97]; thus, EMMPRIN, an MMP-inducer, is becoming recognized as a suitable candidate for therapeutic intervention.…”

“…Firstly, this study updated the included study and two articles (Lahmann et al, 2009;Rossing et al, 2010) published after 2007 were included. The second one was that the cases in our study were patents with OC while in that study were patients with the most common OC, epithelial OC (Zhao et al, 2013). Furthermore, the intensity of RPA was estimated by MET value in the included studies of this meta-analysis.…”

“…Basigin-3 serves as an endogenous inhibitor of basigin-2 via hetero-oligomerization (Liao et al 2011). Basigin-4 was reported to be overexpressed in cervical cancer and promote proliferation of cervical cancer cells (Zhao et al 2013).…”
