Prognostic role of the pre-treatment platelet-lymphocyte ratio in pancreatic cancer: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Background and AimsRecently, the pre-treatment platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), which is based on blood parameters, was accepted as a prognostic factor for patients with various cancers. Numerous studies have investigated the prognostic role of the PLR in pancreatic cancer; however, it remains unclear. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the relationship between the pre-treatment PLR and overall survival (OS) in pancreatic cancer.Materials and MethodsWe performed a systematic literature sear… Show more

“…Many authors have analyzed the role of inflammation and inflammatory factors in predicting survival in various tumors, including pancreatic cancer. Pretreatment neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio [11,18], lymphocyte to monocyte ratio [19], and PLR [20][21][22] were identified as possible factors associated with OS in pancreatic cancer patients. However, the mechanisms responsible for PLR being related to outcomes in cancer patients are still not entirely understood, while factors related to inflammation are known for their role in carcinogenesis.…”

“…However, the precise role of these immunologic parameters in PDAC remains controversial. In recent meta‐analyses, these parameters have been reported to be useful in predicting the prognosis of pancreatic cancer, although there are some contradictions . However, as far as we know, there are no studies focusing on the total lymphocyte count in left‐sided pancreatic cancer.…”

“…They have been shown to be associated with various inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. Furthermore, these parameters are now being evaluated as prognostic indicators for pre-treatment in some inflammatory diseases and cancer 17-19. However, the relationship between N/L, P/L, and PMO has not yet been fully elucidated.…”
