Background Majority of earlier studies have assessed the association between individual healthy eating index-2010 (HEI-2010) and the odds of breast cancer (BC). However, no study has been conducted on the effect of compliance with HEI-2010 and the odds of BC in the Iranian population with a large sample size. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the HEI-2010 and the odds of BC in the Iranian population. Method This population-based case-control study included 350 newly diagnosed cases of BC and 700 healthy controls randomly selected from adult women. HEI-2010 was examined using validated questionnaires. The adherence to HEI-2010 among the participants was divided into four categories. The general characteristics of the participants in the quartiles of the HEI score for categorical variables and continuous variables were evaluated using chi-square and one-way analysis of variance, respectively. Also, using logistic regression analysis, dietary intakes were evaluated in HEI score quartiles. Also, confounding variables were adjusted in different models. Result People with the highest HEI score had 60% lower odds of BC (OR: 0.40; 95% CI: 0.27, 0.57) than those with the lowest score among post-menopause women. After controlling for age and energy intake, individuals with the highest HEI score were 78% less likely to have BC compared with those with the lowest score (OR: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.14, 0.33). Adjustments for other potential confounders including demographic factors made the association stronger (OR: 0.21; 95% CI: 0.13, 0.32). This association remained significant even after taking BMI into model (OR: 0.27; 95% CI: 0.17, 0.43). Conclusion Finally, in this study we found an association between HEI-2010 and odds of breast cancer. This association was particularly seen in postmenopausal women. No significant association was found between adherence to HEI-2010 and odds of BC among pre-menopausal.

Aims: Breast cancer is the cancer with the highest incidence and mortality in women. There are differences in prognosis and survival between women over and under the age of 40. In this article, we aimed to examine breast cancer prognostic factors and survival results in people over the age of 40. Methods: 1187 patients aged 40 and over who underwent surgery at the Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of General Surgery between August 2005 and April 2019 and whose data were accessible were retrospectively examined. Data were obtained from the hospital automation system, the Ministry of Health’s online database, hospital archives, patients, and/or their relatives. They were classified separately in terms of type of surgery, axillary metastasis status (according to radiological status if axilla surgery is not performed), type of axilla surgery performed, pathological tumor size, number of pathological lymph nodes, pathological stage, lymphovascular and perineural invasion status, hormone receptor positivity, C-erb B2 and Ki-67 status, neoadjuvant treatment status, and molecular subgroup. Variables were analyzed individually for recurrence, mortality, and survival. Results found to be significant were subjected to multivariate analysis testing. Statistical significance was accepted as p<0.05. Results: As a result of multivariate analysis performed by excluding data that disrupted homogeneous distribution, perineural invasion, lymphovascular invasion, grade, and progesterone receptor status were determined to be independent prognostic factors in terms of recurrence. Lymphovascular invasion and progesterone receptor status were found to be independent prognostic factors for mortality. Conclusion: A lot of studies have been conducted, and criteria have been determined for breast cancer prognosis and survival. In our results, lymphovascular invasion and progesterone receptor status were found to be independent prognostic markers for both recurrence and mortality. More reliable results can be obtained with prospective study analyses.

Objectives Hospital‐based breast cancer survival studies are scarce in western Iran. Furthermore, the relationship between breast cancer survival and clinical parameters has been extensively studied, but many of the findings come from developing countries. This paper aims to estimate the survival of hospital‐based breast cancer patients and its predictor factors. Method This retrospective analysis was conducted on 578 patients with primary breast cancer who underwent surgery between 2004 and 2020. Information was collected from medical reports by the Hospital information system in Imam Reza Hospital, Kermanshah, Iran. One‐, 2‐, 5‐, and 10‐year breast cancer‐specific survival has been calculated using the Kaplan–Meier process. Crude and adjusted Hazard Ratios (HR) were calculated using the Cox proportional regression model. Result One‐, 2‐, and 5‐year overall breast cancer survival were 219 (99.54%), 196 (89.09%), 159 (72.27%), and 70 (31.81%), respectively. Univariate analysis of breast cancer patients with tumor‐related variables revealed that factors such as age, menopause status, lymph node metastasis, number of lymph nodes, organ metastasis, and stage of disease were significantly associated with disease‐specific survival ( p < .05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that metastasis (HR = 41.77, 95% CI: 15.3–114.15) and lymph node metastasis (HR = 5.26, 95% CI: 1.9–14.6) were significantly related to survival. Conclusion The findings demonstrate that survival is relatively low and is consistent with late‐stage disease diagnosis. It is believed that this is due to a poor level of awareness, lack of screening programs, and subsequent late access to treatment.
