Progestogen for treating threatened miscarriage

Abstract: The data from this review suggest that the use of progestogens is effective in the treatment of threatened miscarriage with no evidence of increased rates of pregnancy-induced hypertension or antepartum haemorrhage as harmful effects to the mother, nor increased occurrence of congenital abnormalities on the newborn. However, the analysis was limited by the small number and the poor methodological quality of eligible studies (four studies) and the small number of the participants (421), which limit the power of… Show more

“…1 TM is the most common complication of ongoing pregnancy, which occurs in approximately 30% of pregnant women, and is associated with a 10-14% risk of full miscarriage. 2,3 Various management protocols have been developed that included conservative management and hormonal therapy that were based on progesterone 4 and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). 5 Overall, TM can generate great anxiety in patients, especially because bleeding in early pregnancy can lead to pregnancy loss and other obstetric complications.…”

“…These etiologies remain largely unknown, however, studies have suggested that factors like altered intrauterine pressure dynamics and/or cervical incompetence are the most probable mechanisms underlying these losses [1,2,23]. A number of strategies to prevent early pregnancy loss and preterm delivery have been investigated, such as cervical cerclage, bed rest, and progesterone supplementation [26][27][28]. Applying the appropriate strategy prophylactically may help to reduce preterm delivery and fetal loss in patients who had surgery to correct partial intrauterine septa.…”

“…Рецепторы прогестерона человека существуют в виде двух изоформ: PR-A и PR-B, кодируемых одним и тем же геном с двумя разными местами начала транскрипции [1,4,31,41,43]. Изоформа PR-A короче, чем PR-B, на 164 ами-нокислоты.…”
