Background: Vitiligo is a depigmenting disorder that causes a loss of melanocytes in the epidermis. Treatment preferences are based on the characteristics of the vitiligo lesions. Purpose: This study evaluates the clinical profiles of vitiligo treated with narrowband UVB (NB-UVB) radiation and topical corticosteroid therapy in Dr. Soetomo Hospital in 2017. Methods: This study is a retrospective study that uses data from the medical records of vitiligo patients who were treated with NB-UVB radiation and topical corticosteroids in Dr. Soetomo Hospital in 2017. The dependent variable was vitiligo treated with NB-UVB radiation or topical corticosteroids, while the independent variables were disease onset, precipitating factor, duration, stability, amount, affected area, location, and type of vitiligo. Results: Thirty-seven patients (19 females) were included, four of whom had been treated with NB-UVB radiation and 33 with topical corticosteroids. In the NB-UVB radiation group, 75% had stable lesions, 50% had a single lesion, 50% had multiple lesions, 75% had an affected area <10cm 2 , 40% had lesions around their face, 40% had lesions on their extremities, and 75% had focal vitiligo. In the topical corticosteroids group, 75.76% had active lesions, 81.82% had multiple lesions, 81.82% had an affected area <10 cm 2 , 28.21% had lesions around their upper extremities, 28.21% had lesions around their lower extremities, and 45.45% had segmental vitiligo.

Background: Vitiligo is an idiopathic disease with a prevalence of 0.5-2% worldwide that causes the loss of melanocyte cells from parts of the body and is characterized by the appearance of well-defined white macules. The pathogenesis of vitiligo is suspected to originate from genetic, non-genetic, and autoimmune factors. Currently, Narrowband Ultraviolet-B (NB-UVB) is the first-line phototherapy treatment to treat vitiligo. Purpose: To evaluate the profile of vitiligo patients who were given phototherapy at the Dermatology and Venereology Outpatient Clinic, Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital for the period January-December 2019. Methods: This study used a retrospective descriptive research design with descriptive statistical methods. In this study, the medical records were evaluated by recording the patient's age, gender, occupation, history of illness, family history, and results of a physical examination. Result: This study obtained 31 samples that received phototherapy dominated by the age range of 17-25 years (29%) and male gender (55%), with a ratio of 1:0.82 to women. The majority work as others (68%). The most common trigger factor was emotional stress (29%). According to physical examination, the majority of patients had multiple lesions (81%), were not widely available (58%), and were of the generalized type (52%). Conclusion: It can be evaluated from the most data obtained: 17-25 years old (29%), male gender (55%), other occupations (68%), emotional stress triggers (29%), multiple lesions (81%), unavailable lesion area (58%), and generalized type (52%), describe the profile of vitiligo patients in Dr. Seotomo General Academic Hospital in 2019.

“…The most common educational level in our study was bachelor and master graduates, in contrast to another epidemiological study conducted in our hospital for vitiligo patients, in which most of the patients were elementary/middle/high school graduates. 16 ) Epidemiological studies conducted in the United States also revealed that only 38% of the patients were college graduates, 14 ) whereas those conducted in Africa reported that 72.3% of the cases had primary and secondary education. 11 ) The higher educational level observed in our patients might be of advantage when providing information to patients regarding their treatments, complications, and disease course.…”
