Worker productivity is an important part of the successful development of human resources and infrastructure building. One of the ways to improve workers’ productivity is using training and worker certification. Therefore, there is a need to analyze the effects of training and certification on worker productivity with case study lightweight brick and steel rods workers in some projects in Palembang. This study aims to analyze the productivity value of workers between certified trained workers (TS) and untrained noncertified workers (BTBS) in the field. Furthermore, comparisons were also conducted on productivity based on field survey and Indonesian National Standard (SNI). This paper also analyzed the significant factors that affect workers productivity in the field. This productivity appraisal used field observation methods and questionnaire. From the results of the study, it was concluded that the training and certification of the workforce greatly affected the worker’s productivity; but some of workers’ productivity of trained workers (TS) and untrained noncertified (BTBS) met the standards of SNI, some did not. This was due to the influence of other factors beyond training and certification of the productivity value of handyman. Furthermore, based on t test results, the factors that significantly affect the productivity of workers were the skills of labor (X1), work motivation (X2) and management (X4). Thus the available regression equation was Y =0,024 +0,332 X1 + 0,676X2 - 0,039X4 + e.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is actively developing and testing Immersive Industrialized Construction Environments (IICE) for construction automation and worker-machine interaction to investigate possible solutions and increase workforce productivity. At full scope and matured functionality, IICE allows us to accelerate the development of and better explore industrialized construction approaches such as prefabrication. IICE also enables wider adoption of energy-efficient products and Industry 4.0 construction automation through worker-machine interaction pilots. Industry 4.0 and industrialized construction approaches can encourage workforce specialization in energy efficiency construction, address the lack of multi-skilled workers, and increase workforce productivity with construction automation. However, recent attempts to integrate these concepts with the industry have only been moderately successful. To address this, focusing the pedagogy on using a digital twin, its digital models, and virtual reality could make the experience of continuing education on construction automation more affordable, accessible, scalable, immersive, and safer, and could greatly improve the efficiency and robustness of the building and construction industry. IICE accurately represents the realities of construction uncertainties without having to create full scale physical prototypes of machines. In this paper, we address the following research question: How can a digital twin and its models in virtual reality enhance the learning experience and productivity of energy efficiency construction workers to gain the skills in operating Industry 4.0 components such as construction automation and handling energy-efficient products in industrialized construction factories and on-site? We introduce original research on developing IICE and present preliminary findings from time and motion pilot studies.

Tension between Productivity and Respect for People in Construction

Productivity in the construction industry is declining in real-time. The decline in productivity is a source of worry for practitioners and researchers. The purpose of this paper is to ascertain major factors influencing productivity in relation to the notion of respects for people (RFP) in construction. The reviewed literature influences the semi-structured questionnaire used to survey construction professionals in Johannesburg, South Africa. The results reaffirm the tension productivity increment and the enhancement of RfP as both ideas appear to be moving in opposite directions on a typical construction site. It was discovered that respect for workers on a construction site is a major concern. The paper argues that ethical reasoning affects productivity. Therefore, an appropriate management system is required to improve the workers' perception of productivity and RfP working on construction sites.
