Production of 11R‐hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid from arachidonic acid by Escherichia coli cells expressing arachidonate 11R‐lipoxygenase from Nostoc sp.
Abstract:Linoleate 9R-lipoxygenase (9R-LOX) from Nostoc sp. SAG 25.82 was identified as arachidonate (ARA) 11R-LOX by the determination of the product obtained from the conversion of ARA. The specific activity and catalytic efficiency (k cat /K m ) of the enzyme for C20 and C22 polyunsaturated fatty acids followed the order ARA > eicosapentaenoic acid > docosahexaenoic acid. The production of the lipid mediator 11R-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (11R-HETE) was performed using Escherichia coli cells expressing ARA 11R-LOX… Show more
“…To date, the known R -LOXs are significantly fewer than S -LOXs. The reported ARA R -LOXs are 8 R -LOX from Plexaura homomalla , 7 11 R -LOXs from Acaryochloris marina 8 and Nostoc sp., 9 and 12 R -LOX from Homo sapiens 10 and Mus musculus . 11 Linoleate (LA) 13 R -LOX from Gaeumannomyces graminis , which catalyzes R -selective peroxidation at C13 in C18 PUFAs, is predicted to have R -selectivity at C15 in C20 PUFAs, but has no activity with C20- and C22-PUFAs.…”
C20- and C22-dihydroxy fatty acids (DiHFAs) are bioactive lipid mediators (LMs) in humans. Among them, leukotrienes are inflammatory mediators, whereas resolvins generated by M2 macrophages in humans are anti-inflammatory mediators....

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
