Production and Characterization of an Integrated Multi-Layer 3D Printed PLGA/GelMA Scaffold Aimed for Bile Duct Restoration and Detection

Abstract: We successfully fabricated artificial bile duct via 3D printing technique which was composed of poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) and gelatin methacrylate (GelMA). The PLGA-inner layer provided sufficient strength to support the bile duct contraction, the GelMA-outer layer possessed good biocompatibility to provide a good living environment for the cells. Moreover, IKVAV laminin peptide (Ile-Lys-Val-Ala-Val) and ultrasmall superparamagnetic iron oxide (USPIO) were used to regulate scaffold cell adhesion an… Show more

“…The FTIR spectrum of GelMA exhibits a sharp peak at 1630 cm −1 , corresponding to C=O stretching groups of amide I bond (labelled as yellow) (Farasatkia , 2021). The peak at 1546 cm −1 is attributed to the N-H bending groups of the amide II bond (labelled as green); the peak at 1244 cm −1 is related to the C-N stretching and N-H bending of the amide III bond (labelled as pink) (Xiang et al, 2020;Farasatkia et al, 2021). Furthermore, the peak located in the range of 3200-3400 cm −1 (labelled as blue) detected in GelMA is associated with the existence of peptide bonds (N-H stretching) and -OH functional groups (Sreekumaran et al, 2021).…”

“…This makes it a suitable candidate for applications as a coating for bone implants. [47,48] It is also crucial that the bone implants coating remains intact and functional throughout surgery. An antibacterial coating should retain its effectiveness over a longer time period, producing the desired therapeutic effects.…”
