“…In this case, a bad estimation of its effective temperature, which was initially higher, led the authors to derive a smaller radius, which shifted the location of Procyon B in the mass-radius panel to a region more compatible with Fe-core white dwarfs. According to the new estimation of the effective temperature, the most compatible composition for Procyon B is a pure C-core surrounded by Herich envelope, with also some traces of C, Mg, Ca and Fe, which makes this star quite peculiar (Provencal et al 2002). It is therefore very important to use accurate values of effective temperatures and masses to reach definitive conclusions about the compositions of white dwarfs.…”

“…In that work Hipparcos parallaxes were used to deduce luminosity radii for 10 white dwarfs in visual binaries of common proper-motion systems as well a 11 field white dwarfs. Since that time complementary follow-up HST observations have been made [268,269] to better determine the spectroscopy for Procyon B and pulsation of G226-29. Procyon B at first appeared as a rather compact star which, however, was later confirmed to lie on the normal mass-radius relation of white dwarfs.…”

“…Owing to its rarity, a system like KOI 74 will be an invaluable target for testing atmospheric models commonly used to (Provencal et al 2002) and Sirius B (Barstow et al 2005) are shown for comparison (gray-filled symbols). References for the other objects are given in the text.…”
