Process Parameter Optimization of a Polymer Derived Ceramic Coatings for Producing Ultra-High Gas Barrier

Abstract: Silica is one of the most efficient gas barrier materials, and hence is widely used as an encapsulating material for electronic devices. In general, the processing of silica is carried out at high temperatures, i.e., around 1000 °C. Recently, processing of silica has been carried out from a polymer called Perhydropolysilazane (PHPS). The PHPS reacts with environmental moisture or oxygen and yields pure silica. This material has attracted many researchers and has been widely used in many applications such as en… Show more

“…Among nanoparticles, ZnO NPs are a popular choice for a variety of applications. ZnO NPs can be used for UV barrier properties, antifungal and antimicrobial activities, photovoltaic testing, beauty products, packaging materials, biomaterials, self-cleaning, water and air cleaning, sterilizing surroundings, and photocatalysts due to their unique physical and chemical properties, such as high electrochemical coupling coefficient, more chemical stability, a diverse range of absorbing radiation, huge excitonic binding energy (60 meV), and large energy bandgap [24,25]. ZnO NPs have several outstanding properties, including ease of synthesis, controllable form and size, excellent biocompatibility, and their intrinsic ability to emit a wide range of colors (violet, blue, green, yellow, and red) [26][27][28].…”

“…The quality of packaging films decides the shelf life of the encapsulated food [ 7 , 8 ]. A variety of biodegradable polymers are used in the food packaging industry, which include polylactic acid (PLA), polyimide (PI) [ 9 , 10 ], and natural polymers such as gelatin [ 11 , 12 ] and fruit extracts [ 13 , 14 , 15 ]. Most of these polymers have good film formability but possess poor barrier characteristics against the diffusion of moisture and oxygen.…”

“…Hydrophobicity helps to reduce the water permeation rate of the product. Exposure to temperature occurs during the manufacture and operation of the device [35]. Due to the luminescent properties of the polymer, it can be used both in light sources and as a detector.…”
