Problems of Pests and Diseases on “Liberika Tungkal Komposit” Coffee in Peatlands, Jambi Province

Abstract: Coffee of Liberika Tungkal Komposit (Libtukom) is a superior commodity that adapts well to the peatlands in West Tanjung Jabung Regency, Jambi Province. Libtukom coffee, which has a distinctive flavor, is the main source of income for the community in Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. The problems in the cultivation of Libtukom coffee include pests and diseases. This study aimed to provide information on the type of pests and diseases that attack Libtukom coffee. The study was conducted in March-September 2017. Da… Show more

“…The LA was determined manually by measuring the length (L) and width (W) of the 4th leaf from each productive branch represented by four branches, taken crosswise according to the four cardinal directions of each observed tree. Calculating the individual LA of the liberica coffee was by a single power model proposed by Antunes et al [27] namely . The disease infection frequency was recorded by counting the number of the leaves infected by rust (Hemileia vastatrix Berk) and or spots (Cercospora coffeicola Berk.…”

“…The number of trapped insects is calculated monthly until the end of the study. The observation of the intensity of the CBB attack was carried out by calculating the percentage of fruits infested on all fruits of each productive branch, with the formula: I=(Bb/Bt)*100%, in this case, I = the intensity of the attack; Bb = fruit affected by CBB/branch; and Bt total number of fruits/branch [11]. The intensity of fruit attacks is observed at the beginning and end of the study.…”

“…Damage caused by H. hampei can reduce production by up to 10-40% [9] [10]. Coffee berry borer, white lice, and stem borer can attack Libtukom coffee with the intensity of mild-moderate attacks [11], and the intensity of H. hampei attacks on Libtukom coffee in Betara district, Tanjung Jabung Barat regency reached 10.33% [9].…”

“…Defoliation reduces plant photosynthetic rate due to a reduction in leaf area, besides negatively affecting the transpiration and respiration processes of the plant, causing damage to crop development 16,17 . In general, defoliation occurs naturally in coffee at non‐harmful levels, but the attack of pests such as coffee leaf miner ( Leucoptera coffeella ) and diseases such as coffee leaf rust ( Hemileia vastatrix ) and Cercospora leaf spot ( Cercospora coffeicola ) are most harmful 18,19 …”
