“…As a result, the future of probiotics [154] and prebiotics should include emphasizing the need for standardized testing methods and personalized approaches to optimize their effectiveness [155][156][157]. There is a relationship between prebiotics, the gut microbiota, and metabolic risks, suggesting that prebiotic consumption could potentially improve metabolic health through modulation of the gut microbiota [158][159][160][161].…”

“…An increasing number of studies have been conducted to clarify the function of L. reuteri in diarrhea since Shornikova and his colleagues first analyzed the effectiveness of L. reuteri DSM 17938 in pediatric acute watery diarrhea and demonstrated that it can dosage-dependently shorten the duration of acute watery diarrhea (Shornikova et al, 1997a;Shornikova et al, 1997b). Previous nine RCTs, which demonstrated that L. reuteri DSM 17938 was capable of reducing the frequency, length of time, and incidence of diarrhea in children and adults, especially in those with lower nutritional status, supported the drug's potential benefits in treating and preventing diarrheal diseases (Agustina et al, 2012;Francavilla et al, 2012;Jones et al, 2013;Dinleyici et al, 2014;Gutierrez-Castrellon et al, 2014;Dinleyici et al, 2015;Pernica et al, 2017;Maragkoudaki et al, 2018;Kambale et al, 2023). Additionally, L. reuteri DSM 17938 could shorten a child's stay in the hospital due to acute gastroenteritis or infectious diarrhea (Dinleyici et al, 2014;Szymanski and Szajewska, 2019).…”

“…GM plays a pivotal role in the processes of nutrient metabolism and energy extraction [ 39 ]. However, when dysbiosis occurs, it can have detrimental effects on nutrient assimilation and metabolism, leading to conditions such as malnutrition or an imbalanced energy equilibrium [ 40 ]. The presence of altered gut microbiota leads to the disruption of the intestinal barrier function, which permits the passage of microbial components and harmful substances into the bloodstream [ 41 ].…”
