Probiotic Dahi containing Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum modulates immunoglobulin levels and cytokines expression in whey proteins sensitised mice

Abstract: Results of the present study indicate that probiotic Dahi skewed Th2-specific immune response towards Th1-specific response and suppressed IgE in serum. Collectively, this study shows the potential use of probiotics intervention in reducing the allergic response to whey proteins in mice. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry.

“…The probiotics with the ability to protect against food allergy are mostly Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium . [ 17–25 ] Lactobacillus case i Zhang (LcZ) is a probiotic strain isolated from traditionally homemade koumiss in Inner Mongolia of China that has been intensively studied and shows various beneficial health effects such as anti‐inflammation, anti‐oxidation effects, stimulating lipid metabolism, and ameliorating intestinal microflora. [ 26–31 ] However, the application of the versatile probiotic in alleviating food allergy is limited, and the potential efficiency and underlying mechanisms are unclear.…”

“…Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease of the CNS characterized by demyelination, inflammatory lesions, axonal damage, activation of IFN-γ-producing Th1 cells and IL-17-producing Th17 cells, inappropriate activation of innate immune cells (macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, and microglia), and aberrant production of cytokines and chemokines ( Ryu et al, 2013 ; Cheng and Chen, 2014 ; Serada et al, 2016 ). Patients with MS experience abnormalities with respect to sensation, mobility, balance, sphincter function, vision, and cognition ( Brownlee et al, 2017 ).…”
