Probing transport mechanisms of BaFe2As2 superconducting films and grain boundary junctions by noise spectroscopy

Abstract: An important step forward for the understanding of high-temperature superconductivity has been the discovery of iron-based superconductors. Among these compounds, iron pnictides could be used for high-field magnet applications, resulting more advantageous over conventional superconductors, due to a high upper critical field as well as its low anisotropy at low temperatures. However, the principal obstacle in fabricating high quality superconducting wires and tapes is given by grain boundaries. In order to stud… Show more

“…In this respect, electric noise spectroscopy has proved to be a very effective and efficient method for studying the kinetic processes of the charge carriers in several systems. As examples, it has strongly contributed to clarify unsolved fundamental questions regarding the electronic properties of manganites 10 , 11 , iron-based superconductors 12 , 13 , carbon nanotube composites 14 , and perovskite-based solar cells 15 . Moreover, the study and control of fluctuation mechanisms plays a crucial role to improve the efficiency of the future devices for quantum information processing 16 .…”

“…The mechanism of phase slippage 1 9 10 and related concept of kinematic vortex 11 12 , previously introduced to account for transport properties of micro-bridges and whiskers, has gained a renewed interest also in the explanation of transport properties of plain thin superconducting films at mesoscale 13 14 15 16 17 18 (with or without holes) and nanowires 19 20 21 22 23 . The same mechanism could play an important role in the dynamics of iron-based superconducting grain boundary junctions, where the presence of weak links has been identified through noise spectroscopy 24 . Moreover, nano-fabrication techniques also permitted to revisit the physics of proximity effect 25 between a superconducting material and a non superconducting material and related Josephson effects 26 in lateral weak links 27 at mesoscale.…”
