This study aims to identify the initial effectiveness of teaching primary school teachers of Islamic education based on higher order thinking skills (HOTS). The study involved Perak but this study is an initial survey prior to a broader study on the run. Component higher-order thinking such as skill appeal vary, skills collating sequence, skills forecasting, skills definition and skills to create the analogy that in view of the three main components of initial teacher teaching the lesson planning, setting teaching objectives and induction set is selected as the conceptual framework. This study used a descriptive analysis (through a questionnaire). All of this data collection instrument developed by the researcher with the modification of the instrument KBAT Ministry of Education and experts involved and its contents confirmed by a reference panel of experts. Cronbach alpha reliability level value obtained is high at between (0.82173). A total of 400 teachers of Islamic education randomly selected to answer the questionnaire. Data were analyzed descriptively using percentages frequency and min. Overall, the study found the practice teaching based on higher order thinking skills is at the high level by means of the whole (4:43) and based on components of teaching practice which consists of teaching plans which recorded min (4.45), setting learning objectives listed min (4.44 ) and set induction recorded min (4:40). Implications and recommendations can give a benefit to ministries, schools, teachers and the community in improving the level of teaching practices based on higher order thinking skills (HOTS) as envisaged in the Education Development Plan 2013Plan -2025

Islamic religious education is a very important element in building a Muslim community that has a strong, formidable sense of integrity. Islamic knowledge covers faith, acts of worship, sharia and moral. These are among the important components that every individual, especially those called Muslims, should learn. The development of Islamic da'wah in Malaysia results in individuals from different races and religions converting to Islam. This new group known as 'converts' needs assistance in aspects of Islamic education to ensure that they can become a true Muslim. The weakness of these converts in understanding, practising and reflecting on their religious practices poses a great challenge to the converts’ children’s religious education. Therefore, this study will identify the challenges faced by converts’ children in Malaysia in empowering their religious education. This study uses the library study method through close reference to the writings and documents on converts. The review of past studies shows that the challenges faced by the children of converts in obtaining Islamic education are religious challenges, challenges brought by parents who lack the basics of religion and who are illiterate, financial challenges and challenges involving family backgrounds. This study recommends that converts’ children are given a particular emphasis on Islamic education by the agencies involved to strengthen their integrity from young, to avoid any forms of negative influence that will inhibit their religious values.

Education is highly emphasized in Islam because it can guide people to live righteous life according to Islamic law. The same also applies to mualaf or converts, who should be provided with proper education and guidance to perform their duties as true Muslims. In Malaysia, an increasing number of individuals are embracing Islam as their way of life. They are given an education and need to attend classes to ensure that they understand and practice the teachings of Islam properly. Therefore, teachers play an important role in achieving this goal by applying interesting and effective teaching methods. This study was conducted to identify the perceptions of mualaf students on their teachers' teaching practices in the classroom to ensure that they understand and practice what they have learned in class, besides strengthening their faith and morals. A total of 124 mualaf students from two educational institutions in one of the states in Malaysia were involved in this study using quantitative methods. Questionnaires were used to collect data based on the objectives of the study. The results showed that students had a positive perception of the teaching methods used by their teachers. This study also discussed some of the problems faced by mualaf students in their learning process. Overall, the findings of the study indicated that most students have a positive view of their teachers’ teaching. The current findings are expected to provide input to relevant agencies and a guide to improving the quality of teaching for mualafs.
